The state has passed a new law mandating the Pertussis (whooping cough) vaccine, but the have failed to notify parents that they can merely fill out a philosophical exemption if they don’t want their children to have it. Almost all of those who got pertussis last year had been vaccinated for it, and experts say the vaccine may not be effective any more because the bacteria that causes whooping cough has mutated. This is significant because the government reports that this vaccine can cause brain damage and one version of the vaccine, Tripedia, even lists autism on the package insert as one of the reported adverse outcomes of the shot. While in 2010, 10 children died of pertussis, 44 children’s deaths were associated with the pertussis vaccine.
